Cherry blossom season is fleeing; the beautiful burst of white and pink blossom erupts just as quickly as it returns to dormancy, allowing only a span of three weeks for us to enjoy their beauty. And this year, despite the fear that runs rampant, I am reminded by them to once more enjoy life because it is fleeting. Go out there and appreciate the air, the sunshine and the blossom.
Although not my usual post, I hope you enjoy the collection of insightful cherry blossom quotes and poetry below.
“What a strange thing!
to be alive
beneath cherry blossoms.”
― Kobayashi Issa
“Look at the cherry blossoms!
Their color and scent fall with them,
Are gone forever,
Yet mindless
The spring comes again.”
― Ikkyu
“The significance of the cherry blossom tree in Japanese culture goes back hundreds of years. In their country, the cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It’s a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short.”
— Homaro Cantu
“I wouldn’t mind
if life left me…
wingless
burnt to cinders
ripped by storms
scattered…like weeds
celestially wounded
without cherry blossoms
to perish with
but I would cry
with head held in my hands
if it left me…
unfulfilled.”
― Sanober Khan, A touch, a tear, a tempest
I bloomed up
all over again
despite knowing,
cherry blossoms
are only meant
to wither.
— Eayra
“God took His time to carve out the perfect place, Sam remembered her grandma always saying.
Indeed, the hilltop was akin to a real cherry on top of a stunningly picturesque sundae. Bayview Point was home to two of northern Michigan’s most popular orchards and tourist stops: Very Cherry Orchards and her family’s Orchard and Pie Pantry. The first half of the hill was dense with rows of tart cherry trees, and the limbs of the small, bushy trees were bursting with cherries, red arms waving at Sam as if to greet her home.
In the spring, these trees were filled with white blossoms that slowly turned as pink as a perfect rosé, their beauty so tender that it used to make Sam’s heart ache when she would run through the orchards as part of her high school cross-country training. Often, when Sam ran, the spring winds would tear at the tender flowers and make it look as though it were snowing in the midst of a beautiful warm day.”

That´s nice!!!
Such a lovely post Yuen…. thank you for the inspiration!
I love cherry blossoms, and I so wish to witness Sakura season in Japan once.
For now, the one cherry tree in our garden will have to do 🙂
Same here. I always miss out on the cherry blossoms in Japan just due to bad timing. I hope to visit a small village one day and enjoy their cherry blossom festival. But you’re right, doesn’t matter where the cherry tree is, just enjoy them when you see em!
